It's Already in the Room

An audio series of honest conversations about raising money with community first.

You're invited to share your voice!

Welcome

I'm so honored you're here.

You’re a coach, thought leader, a strategist, a healer, or a builder whose work is moving philanthropy toward justice and liberation for Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. That’s exactly why I want you in this series.

It’s Already in the Room is a FREE audio series that we’ll be releasing during Black Philanthropy Month (August 2026). Across 15 intimate Voxer conversations, we’ll explore the current state of fundraising and philanthropy, especially for BIPOC-led organizations, and lift up the truth that our communities already hold what we need to thrive.

Below is everything you need to know to decide whether lending your voice to this series aligns with your work and values. No pressure…just a warm invitation.

What is the series, exactly?

Imagine a back-and-forth conversation with your favorite fundraising homie. That’s what we’ll create with It’s Already in the Room using an app called Voxer. It’s like a walkie-talkie for grown-ups.

No need to be on camera

A ~15 minute back-and-forth voice conversation. No script to memorize—just your wisdom and lived experience.

15 voices of color

You’ll be in powerful company with experts, consultants, and coaches reshaping how Black-led organizations and leaders of color centering community in their fundraising.

Care over hustle

We center honesty about the work, the systems, and the path toward liberatory giving.

The series unfolds across three days:

Day 1 — “Reading the Room” — Federal funds have been cut. Grants are more competitive and shrinking. Here’s what that means for how we fund the work.

Day 2 — “What’s Already in the Room” — Giving circles, mutual aid, earned income: the models already working in community.

Day 3 — “Working the Room” — The tools and templates to put community-centered fundraising into practice immediately.

Who's listening?

The audience is US – Black, Indigenous, and People of Color leading nonprofit and community-based organizations, breaking generational cycles, and raising resources for community in a system that wasn’t built for us.

They’re craving honest analysis, practical strategy, and a vision of fundraising rooted in joy, power, and liberation.

How the Voxer conversation works

So...what is Voxer?

Voxer is a free voice messaging app that works like a walkie-talkie for your phone. You simply press a button, record your message, and send it. No scheduling needed, no pressure to be live or polished. If you don't have it yet, you can download Voxer for free from your phone's app store. It's available for both iPhone and Android.

I'll kick off our conversation with the same starting question for every contributor. In your own time, hit the orange button and record your answer. We'll go back and forth over a day or two, discussing you, your work, and your philosophy on fundraising and philanthropy. The goal is a 15-minute(ish) conversation. No pressure to be polished. Just real talk.

"Tell me about a time when money was already in the room and your community funded what it needed from within. What opened up after?"

This will be the opening question for every contributor. It's the heartbeat of the series.
